1Camp Alleghany Mini Campership
Celebrating its 100th year anniversary this year, Camp Alleghany is an all-girls overnight summer camp, located in the Allegheny Mountains on the beautiful and peaceful banks of the Greenbrier River in West Virginia.
As the oldest girls' camp in the Virginias, Alleghany remains true to principles established by its founders a hundred years ago, providing a safe haven in which young women can develop their skills and confidence through fun activities, building their self-esteem and maturing as leaders while naturally inspiring growth through honor, loyalty and friendship.
Begun in the summer of 2003, Mini Camp is aimed at rising 2nd-5th grade girls to give these girls a taste of what sleepaway camp is all about.
At the beginning of Mini Camp, campers sign up for four daily activities, selected from the fourteen that Camp Alleghany offers. By focusing on four activities, campers have the opportunity to master skills, accomplish real goals, and succeed in passing set progress levels.
In addition to their four activities, campers have two periods of unstructured time daily during which they may attend Free Swim, play tennis or pick-up games/sports, write letters home, shower, relax, or simply play on tent row. Counselors supervise all activities, structured and unstructured.
While not an alternative to their traditional three-week Term Camp, this one week mini version offers an introduction to the traditions, routines, and unique experiences that Camp Alleghany affords girls in its three-week Term Camp. Because of that focus, Mini Campers may attend only once and then transition into Term Camp. Typically, each summer there are a number of Mini Campers who actually head home for a few weeks and then return to camp for second Term.
Mini Camp 2022 is June 19-25, for girls in rising 2nd-5th grades (current 1st-4th graders). The camper must not have attended Alleghany before, but may have attended other sleepaway camps.
