About the Photographer:

Michael Wong is an award winning photographer concentrated in sports, lifestyle and documentary photography and motion disciplines. After graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Ca. Micheal went on to assist visionary photographers Paul Jasmin and Wayne Maser at the height of their careers in the 90's. Paul Jasmin served as both a teacher and mentor to Michael during college and to this day. Micheal documented for Nike, street balling known as "battlegrounds" an assignment that took months to complete as well as many high profile athlete commercial shoots with LeBron James and Kobe Bryant for Nike over the years. Micheal's love of extreme sports, lifestyle and street fashion led him to be the principal photographer for VH1 Hip Hop Honors in 2006. Michael struck up a relationship with the rapper Rakim while shooting for VH1 which led to a behind the scenes of Rakim's touring which lasted a year on the road. Michael lives in Pelham, NY with his wife and daughter.

About the Photos:

These shots were done off to the side of the commercial shoot (also shot by Michael) in a self-build photo box for VH1 Hip Hop Honors 2006. They are shot on polaroid B&W negative film. The Beasties were fun, energetic and game for all types of shots. They definitely loved up to their fame, original, fun and unpredictable. It was a pleasure to be with such hip hop royalty. These photo's have been rarely published and remain in Michael's personal archive.
