Artist Statement:

I have often seen women applauded and appreciated for the burdens they carry/ the hurdles they overcome as they navigate their lives versus their core value and strength to hold on to hope and to persist. As an offshoot of a previous character who pursues self-love in this toxic patriarchal world, this character is the most current version of her, still going on, still navigating the world around her, still doing it for self-love. The hurdles/hardships she is tied to have become heavier and the chains a bit longer to accommodate the growing challenges. However, as the viewer (us), are we choosing to focus on the obstacles she conquers or the virtues she possesses? Can we celebrate her for her? Can the work be about her no matter what victories, hurdles, burdens she brings with her? Can we value her without knowing or being convinced by her record of triumphs and challenges?
