Artist Bio:

MARY ELLEN MARK (1940-2015) is recognized as one of the most respected and influential photographers and her images have become icons of documentary and humanistic photography. She achieved worldwide visibility through her books, exhibitions, and editorial work. She photographed for magazines including The New Yorker, LIFE, and New York Times Magazine.

Mark's honors include the Cornell Capa Award, the Infinity Award for Journalism, an Erna & Victor Hasselblad Foundation Grant, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship, three National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, and two Robert F. Kennedy Awards.

Mark published twenty-one monographs, including Ward 81 (1979), Falkland Road (1981), Streetwise (1992), Indian Circus (1993), Exposure (2005), and Tiny: Streetwise Revisited (2015.) Posthumous monographs include The Book of Everything (2020), Ward 81 Voices (2023), and Falkland Road (2023).

A major retrospective exhibition was recently mounted at C/O Berlin.
