MMS enjoyed the privilege of working with local artist Charly Jupiter Hamilton for over two decades. He collaborated with the children to design the spirit animals that became our beautiful school sign and our "M" logo. He worked on many auction items with the students over the years and was also a close friend of our classroom assistant, Karen Kelly. Charly passed away in the fall of 2021, but we wanted to honor his legacy as an artist and friend by creating a quilt that reminds us of him and inspires us to look towards a bright future.
"I always jump at the chance to help," Charly once said about working with MMS students. "Kids enter every activity with an anything-is-possible attitude. They always pick the biggest brush and the brightest paint. Their attitudes inspire and feed into my own work." In our quilt design students, chose their colors from the bright and bold fabrics, honoring this memory of Charly.
With the brightness and hope that children bring into the world, we are truly building the future one child at a time here at MMS.
Thank you to UE I teachers and students for creating such a vibrant tribute to Charly and his impact on children!
