2018 Bitouzet Prieur Bourgogne Passetoutgrains
Champagne Deutz Brut Classic
Take a trip down the east of France, from Champagne in the north, through Burgundy and finishing in the Rhone Valley! These three wines will gently urge you in the direction of vinicultural agritourism.
Champagne Deutz has been in the Champagne game in one form or another since 1838. The Brut Classic is an example of their house style and is a balance of minerality and fruit. Lily Bollinger once explained the importance of Champagne:
I drink champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it -- unless I'm thirsty.
Heading south a bit to Burgundy, we find ourselves with a bottle of Bitouzet Prieur Bourgogne Passetoutgrains. This is a special wine that is a blend of two grapes, Gamay and Pinot Noir, and is meant to be enjoyed with food AND friends.
And your final destination, the beautiful and warm Rhone Valley, brings you a bottle of Guigal Gigondas. Featuring primarily Grenache, this wine hails from 40 year old vines and is generous with stone fruit (like apricot and peach) as well as licorice. Best taken with your favorite red meat or salty cheese.
Enjoy your trip!
