"Taking a Load Off," by Kyle Johnson (acrylic on paper, 30x24" framed).

The Tierra del Sol Gallery empowers people with developmental disabilities through careers in the arts.

Kyle Johnson, born in 1982 and from Bakersfield, California, has been working in the Careers in the Arts program at the Sunland studios of the Tierra Del Sol since 2019. Johnson creates paintings, ceramics, textiles and poetry. His acrylic paintings feature views of landscapes, grassy fields and trees under big skies, often with open roads fading into the distance and poetic lines written in the sky. His poems, which can be accompanied by his drawings, offer insight on the intersection of race, disability, environmentalism, and love. Johnson's creative works explore his vision of the world with wisdom and tenderness while inviting viewers and readers to share his touching perspective.
