Full Color Print on Canvas, Professionally Done in an Aqua-colored Gilded Frame. Image: 15" x 19", Framed: approx. 18 4/3" x 22 3/4" The photograph was first captured for a Post Card and shows the Big Four Station from the South side or track-side on a typical day. Planning started in 1906 for a consolidated Passenger Railroad Station in downtown Springfield for the Big Four Railroad (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago, and St. Louis), the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR), the DT&I (Detroit, Toledo, and Ironton Railroad), and the Erie Railroad. Construction was started in 1909 and the Dedication Ceremony was held on June 6th, 1911. It was designed by Chicago Ecclesiastic Architect Henry J. Schlacks (1897-1938). Schlacks was trained at M.I.T. and in the offices of the famous Adler and Sullivan before helping to found the Architecture Dept. at the University of Notre Dame in 1898.
