Does your child love insects?!

Win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join Caltech evolutionary biologist Professor Joe Parker on an exploration of insect diversity in Angeles National Forest. Nurture your budding biologist by spending half a day with Professor Parker, investigating the microcosms where incredible insects are found. Learn about insect ecology, evolution and their remarkable, intricate relationships with other species. Find out how to study these amazing organisms scientifically, and help participate in the Parker lab at Caltech's research program on symbiotic beetles that live inside ant colonies. Become aware of the universe of living creatures that surrounds us.

About Professor Parker:

Joe Parker is Assistant Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering at California Institute of Technology. Originally from Wales, UK, he obtained a BSc from Imperial College London and a PhD from the University of Cambridge/Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology. Prior to Caltech, he pursued postdoctoral research at Columbia University in New York. He is also a Research Associate of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. His lab at Caltech studies how relationships between species emerge during evolution through changes at the genomic, cellular and neurobiological levels. His work has been recognized with numerous awards. He is a Rita Allen Foundation scholar, a Klingenstein Fund/Simons Foundation fellow, an Alfred P. Sloan fellow, a Pew Biomedical Scholar, and a recipient of the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award.

Joe is also a High Point parent of Jonah in first grade, whose brother, Eden, will join Kindergarten next year.
