Experience the Science of Wine! (and some good food and entertainment too).
The winning bidder will bring 6-8 adult friends and join Mr. and Mrs. Wood to a private residence for afternoon or evening of wine tasting, charcuterie and entertainment. From the hosts' private cellar, wine from boutique wineries that are not easily found at your local wine store will be shared. The selection will feature two to three white wines and six to seven red wines. The wines will be selected for the purpose to highlight the taste impacts of different climates, grapes and winemaking practices. Participants will also learn about the different care factors that impact the tase of wine such as aging, temperature, and aeration.
The highlight of this experience will be exploring the importance of using the right wine glass with different varieties of wine. Participants will experience how the same wine tastes completely different in 2 different shaped wine glasses. For this experience we use Riedel wine glasses invented by Claus Riedel. Each participant will take home a Riedel Wine Glass Tasting Set.
About Riedel Wine Glasses:
It was the Riedel Company that first took the wineglass and made it both a form of science and a form of art. Claus realized that the shape of the glass, while dictating emission of aroma, also dictates how a person positions their head while drinking, ultimately altering the way the wine flows into their mouth. Because drinkers of wine all drink with the goal of not spilling a single drop, they alter the position in which they sip. Where wide, open glasses force a drinker to lower their head, narrowly designed glasses force a drinker to tilt their head back. This delivers the wine to different zones of the tongue, resulting in the brain perceiving different flavors. The volume of the wine glass, the diameter of its rim, the thickness of the crystal, and the finish also all play a role in the roll of the wine onto the tongue.
