Joseph Skoby is a Southern Californian artist whose work is inspired by the nature of his native State. His ceramics, created in his own lush garden, recall his intimate dance with the ocean as a lifelong surfer-a pure form of self-expression that disappears after each wave. Each vessel is unique, hand-thrown and crafted in Skoby's studio in La Jolla, California. His work finds inspiration in the traditional Japanese ceramics craft, combined with the freedom to dive into the contemporary. The pieces embody an aesthetic principle where imperfections become the birthplace of unique beauty. Textured with hand carved patterns or smooth to the surface, Skoby's ceramics abandon their functional purpose as vase, and become a sculptural element instead. This one-of-a kind vase is hand-crafted ceramic glazed stoneware, in subtle shades of browns, tans, and greens, and is 10.5" high and 12" wide.
