Fine, Fine, Fine Hard-to-Find Nc'Nean Scotch Whisky
You'll be torn between drinking this Nc'Nean Batch Number 4, aged three years, or simply saving up for a special occasion. Continue reading for a true connoisseur experience:
Nc'Nean batch No. 4, aged three years, bottled by Nc'Nean. Nc'Nean is a new distillery established by Annabel Thomas to produce an all-organic, single-malt whisky in a distillery that is 100% powered by renewable energy. They recycle 99.97% of the waste product and use bottles made of 100% recycled clear glass. Nc'Nean, batch number 4 was distilled in mid-to late Summer 2017 and bottled by the distillery as one of about 5,000 bottles in November or December of 2020. Yah, it's only been aged for three years, but it's FANTASTIC!
Enjoy this on a warm Spring or Summer evening. Alternatively, try it with your eyes closed in the dead of winter and you'll feel like it's Spring. The short, three-year aging is noticeable at first--it's bright when you first put your nose over the glass, but don't judge it too soon. The flavor is light and fruity, much smoother than many 7 - 12 year old whiskies. The brightness disappears in the second sip. Add enough water to bring the alcohol concentration down to 20-25% and you will also bring out grapefruit, lemon and Spring flowers. It has the full mouth-feel of whisky and the crispness of white wine. Look-up the distiller on the web for a few cocktail recipes especially suited to this make.
Linkwood aged 22 years, bottled by Signatory Vintage. Linkwood is a Speyside distillery that produces unpeated malts that are known for their honey, fruit, and vanilla flavors. Signatory is an independent bottler of hand-selected casks produced by Scotland's best distilleries. This whisky in this bottle was distilled in the early summer of 1997 at Linkwood, aged for 22 years in a refilled hogshead cask, and bottled at cask strength (about 57.5%) by Signatory in late Spring of 2020. You could enjoy this bottle on a special occasion, but it's a reasonable bottle to keep in a collection as well. As one of only 230 bottles from the cask, it should appreciate nicely. If you do want to taste it, don't ice it like bourbon. Expect a strong, spicy taste to start, especially if you taste it from the bottle at cask strength--think gingerbread or licorice. Add some pure spring water for vanilla, herbs, and citrus flavors. Either way, it should have a long, warm, creamy finish--white chocolate, coconut, maybe bananas.
