My name is Jim Ryberg and I am 82 years old. At the age of 76, I was diagnosed with Dementia which brought with it, as my primary symptom, high anxiety. When diagnosed, I was learning to watercolor paint. Once my anxiety started to increase, I could not decide what subject to paint, so I stopped painting for a while. Then, I discovered Yupo paper which did not absorb the paint; it was like painting on glass. This Dementia 683 I pour all the paint in layers to cover about the first 2 to 3 inches on the top edge of the Yupo paper. I then hold the painting over the sink and tilt it so the paint runs towards the bottom of the paper. The thickness of the paint and the angle of the tilt produce different effects. If I want bubbles I will add Elmer's glue or silicone spay to the paint.
When I started to paint, I was asked to name each of the paintings. Well, with my anxiety you can guess how that went! However, I did name them. My first painting was called Dementia Delight Number 1. My second painting was called Dementia Delight Number 2, and so on. You adjust to work with what you have or do not have. I hope you enjoy some of my paintings. May God bless you.
