Artist Statement

Although I am a South Central, Pennsylvania native, I lived in California for some time where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Since returning to Pennsylvania I have shown my work at various places in Cumberland, Dauphin, and York counties.

Inspired by the colors of Monet and the repetition of Kusama, I have found a way to express myself through Dot Art. I use acrylic paint and a small brush to create imagery on canvas. Everything about this process intrigues me; the colors, the texture of the paint, hiding from my family in the studio, and the meditative process behind it all. With my brush and dots I convey the personal, the world around me as I see it, fantasies, and the abstract.

The two pieces I am submitting for the Dreams Exhibition, Stepping Beyond and Re-Emergence, represent waking dreams. Stepping Beyond represents the freedom of breaking through imaginary boundaries set by an oppressive force. The freedom that comes when one realizes that beliefs are simply thoughts, not something written in stone, and can be changed. Re-Emergence represents the recreating of the world around you from the ground up. Recreating a world that works for you and not what others believe your world should be.
