The Hicks Award for Advocacy is given at the discretion of the Chair of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School to an individual, company or organization that is:
- mission-driven and exemplifies Marburn's core values;
- an advocate, champion, and key influencer; and
- a change agent that has made lasting and transformative contributions to the field and/or the constituencies we serve.
The inaugural award will be presented in 2022 to its namesake, Brian Hicks, President and CEO of Hicks Partners, LLC.
Brian Hicks is an extraordinary volunteer, community advocate and catalyst for change - all that this award embodies. His unparalleled legacy is one associated with access and affordability for all through his pro-bono lobbying work for the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship and Autism Scholarship. Brian's decades-long advocacy work has ensured all families who need educational options for students who learn differently may access the services they need despite their financial circumstances.
Brian joined the Marburn Academy Board of Trustees in 2008. During his tenure he served on all committees and as Chair of the Marketing Committee from 2016-2019. He was Secretary 2012 to 2016, Vice-Chair in 2016 and Chair from 2017 to 2021. His service to the Marburn community is a family affair and his wife, Kathy, has been involved with many initiatives including the Gala. Their son, Jacob, graduated from Marburn Academy in 2018.
Brian and future recipient names will be added to a commemorative plaque permanently installed at the New Albany campus.
