Framed "Pink Umbrellas" limited edition (36 x 53.3).

About the Art:

Pink Umbrellas was one of the images that earned Jorge the 2018 Hasselblad Master Photographer Award (aerial category). A wondrous pallet dotted with parasols, towels, and buoys, Pink Umbrellas was taken in October 2014 on Miami Beach. Limited to 56 prints. Printed in-house exclusively on Hahnemuhle Photo Silk Baryta using the latest generation of Canon Wide format inkjet pigment printers. Hahnemuhle Photo Silk Baryta is a white, silk gloss baryta paper that gives the impression of a traditional silver halide photo paper. The unique barium sulfate coating ensures an extraordinary image result with very large color space, creamy shades of white and velvety deep black. Meticulously examined and insured to be free of any paper imperfection. All limited-edition framed artworks undergo our proprietary lamination process (print only orders will not be laminated.) Laminated prints are beautifully reflection-free, UV-protected and durable enough to touch. All limited-edition framed works are laminated, then mounted to Dibond (an aluminum composite material called ACM.) ACM is an archival method that provides one of the smoothest, flattest and most durable surfaces for mounting photographs. Expertly framed in-house ensuring the best quality possible.

Artist:

JORGE DE LA TORRIENTE

I was born in Miami, Florida, in 1971. I studied architecture at Cornell University, and I am extremely passionate about creating things.

My career in photography began as an amateur landscape photographer exploring and experimenting during the early years of the photographic digital revolution. As my interest and skills progressed I began to look for ways to monetize my work to pay for my equipment and travel. I began with local art shows and quickly realized that there was a market for the type of work I was creating. After a couple of years, I found a business partner who was in the framing business. We decided to partner up and try to sell my work. We began in a small pop-up gallery in Key West and shortly after found a store front where we established our gallery, De La Gallery, in 2013.

My passion for photography and travel go hand in hand. My photographs are not documentations of a place, but rather an interpretation of it. You aren't simply viewing an image, but experiencing a work of art that has been created and refined through my eyes. Much of the artistry is in the processing. Inspired by the masters, I create finished pieces that try to feel like paintings but are clearly products of photography. The use of long exposure, a simplified color palette, a clean and elegant presentation all help me achieve this signature painterly effect.
