Title: Waiting For The Sun

Description: This gorgeous, Globe, fishtail deck was gifted to me by the ultimate Hermosa Beach resident and radical skateboarder, Pat Rocco. Brother to Steve Rocco, who, with Rodney Mullen founded World Industries (check out documentary, "The Man Who Souled The World"), Pat was skating with the original rebels; the badass, freestyle crew of Hermosa Beach. When I saw the theme for this fantastic fundraiser, "Rock, Roll, Rebel: Hermosa," I thought; what better board to use than this one?

The design is inspired by one of the original Rock and Roll rebels of the South Bay, Jim Morrison of "The Doors" and is appropriately titled, "Waiting For The Sun." Morrison's likeness is depicted with a very graphic, punk poster kind of vibe, and the cool blues and purples of the background mimic a Hermosa Beach ocean. Jagged, triangular cuts create movement and evoke a feeling of tough, rebellious, chaotic beauty, much like the musician himself. The clear absence of warmth in color only strengthens the title. This piece is about individuality and counterculture, two ideals that are richly rooted in the Hermosa Beach art and music scene.
