Ever dreamed of being on the airwaves? This is your chance. Join Andrea Pierre and ShaVunda Brown as a guest on "Power Perspectives" on KRSM 98.9 Radio for All. Come and talk art, life, policy and life in Minneapolis. Andrea PIerre is station manager and a 2021 Media Justice Network Fellow. She is a champion of voices of the under-represented and unheard. Andrea believes that story-telling is a huge component to bridging the divide, and is interested in how to connect and empower folks for change. She is passionate about issues such as motherhood, community based-arts, Blackness, politics and health. ShaVunda Brown is an internationally award winning spoken word artist, an actress, organizer, and rap lyricist. She writes to empower and shed light on raw truths, with a sharp social consciousness. Using her knowledge of African diasporic spirituality, history, mythos and the southern folklore of her upbringing, she weaves stories and new visions of liberation. Her voice has been heard on national campaigns for Sephora on racial bias, the adultification of black girls for Georgetown Law Center on Poverty and Inequality and a local campaign for Reproductive Justice for UnRestrict Minnesota. KRSM is a low-power FM radio station based out of the Phillips neighborhood. Broadcasting at 98.9 FM, this hyper-local platform amplifies the voices, stories, cultures, and conversations happening in South Minneapolis. Their focus is on communities that are marginalized, misrepresented, and erased by traditional media. Their schedule features shows in 6 different languages (English, Spanish, Somali, Ojibwe, Hmong, and Haitian Creole), and 10 hours of programming each week by Indigenous hosts.
