Miracle kitten, that's what we now call Olive Oyl. After examining her as a 3-month-old kitten, our senior staff veterinarian discovered something she had never seen in her 31 years of practice. Olive Oyl had a persistent right aortic arch (PRAA), a birth defect that constricted her esophagus as she grew, causing her esophagus to become enlarged and keeping food from passing to her stomach. This tiny kitten was suffering from a megaesophagus, a rare condition for cats. Without surgery, her chances of a long, healthy life were slim. LHS is incredibly fortunate to have skilled veterinarians on staff to not only perform thousands of spay/neuter surgeries every year but also treat and care for animals with unique conditions like Olive Oyl. This 3-pound kitten's delicate surgery involved opening up her chest to locate and clip the PRAA. Now food can pass directly to her stomach without getting stuck in her enlarged esophagus. Because of this life-saving surgery, Olive Oyl can now live a healthy, normal life. Olive Oyl is a prime example of how LHS is willing to do big things for small creatures. Your donation will allow us to continue this life-saving work.
