Clip Point Bowie Knife

This knife is constructed in the style of a traditional American Bowie knife.

The steel was hand forged by the maker using a Japanese Go-Mai (5 layer) technique. The core of the blade is a 1095 high carbon steel for excellent edge holding abilities. The middle layers on each side is a nickel alloy, which shows a bright finish even when exposed to years of use. This softer allow forged to either side of the main core allows for greater flex without breaking. The outer jacket layer on either side is 15N20 steel, which is a high carbon steel known for its excellent toughness. When combined into a single blade, these materials complement each other and make for a blade that will withstand incredible use, much more than a blade made of a single steel.

The guard is hand shaped from 340 Stainless steel and polished to a mirror finish. The handle spacer is repurposed steel from the 1800's and was mirror polished before being gun blued to a deep black with four polished grooves on the top and bottom for excellent grip. The handle is carved from desert ironwood, one of the hardest and toughest woods available.

The handmade sheath is made in the old west style with a concho for attaching to a cowboy pistol belt. The entire sheath is hand tooled for attractive looks and lined with soft calfskin for excellent retention.

The knife and sheath were made by the maker, Rudy Dean, a Journeyman Bladesmith in the American Bladesmith Society.
