Desert Twilight BY Lydia Quinones

Instagram.com/quinones.textiles

36" Large Butterfly

This butterfly is far from fragile! She enjoys the seasons of Arizona monsoons and the scent of creosote and cactus flowers. She is a hearty desert dweller, in tune with the vibration of the terrain.

The artist was inspired by the breathtaking sunsets of the Southwest. A tranquil scene of white sun swathed in the warm glow of a striking orange and yellow sunset, below a haze of purple and pink clouds. The desert may be harsh, but is far from barren. The warm glow trickles across the landscapes and melts into the lush vegetation, proving that the desert is rich in life.

About the Artist...

Since moving from China, Lydia Quinones has been an Arizona resident for six years. When she's not teaching high school art, she's focused on ceramics, weaving, and painting for private commissions. Her public paintings, which are recognizable by their bright colors, can be found on benches and parking meters in downtown Phoenix and Glendale. Her art works usually address aspects of Chinese culture or Arizona history, incorporating her experiences of living in Asia with her fascination with the Southwest. In 2020, her butterfly contribution to Flutter at the Fountain received the second highest bid.
