Amandine Drouet was born and raised in France. She grew up in La Borne, a small village in the Loire Vallee celebrated for its ceramic. Early on she learned to appreciate art and nature. After moving to the United States to be an au pair to perfect her English, Amandine settled down in Atlanta to further her studies at Georgia State University. There she obtained a BA in Psychology and an MFA in Drawing and Painting. Amandine's artwork has been shown in public places and private galleries for over twenty years in the United States and in France. In 2015 she received the Emerging Artist Award from the Forward Arts Foundation. Amandine has also been part of several collaboratives and cofounded Embodied Energy Studio, a group of artists that has been working with marine scientists to educate the general public about plastic pollution and sustainability. The three artists created a 35 feet tall public art sculpture made from reclaimed plastic that traveled to several major city (Atlanta, GA, Grand Rapid, MC and St Petersburg, FL) with the help of a NOAA grant and other grants. Chance and randomness guide her work where she chooses to recycle discarded materials to give them a second life. Amandine has always been inspired by the juxtaposition between beauty and decay, death and life, and the idea of rebirth. Sustainability and awareness have always been at the center of her art practice and way of life. Each project takes on a form of its own such as installation, photography, painting, drawing, sculpting, fusing or sewing plastic, or at times all at once. Amandine intends to leave her pieces open-ended and ambiguous to allow the viewer to bring his or her own experiences and personal narratives to the artwork.
