Enjoy a day in the fields at the Hambidge Center with Henning von Schmeling, Senior Director of Operations at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Explore the rich natural history of the Hambidge Center and see how art often mimics nature. This experience package allows for up to six people to participate, and a lunch will be provided by Hambidge's in-house culinary expert, Chef Lori Speed.

Your date for this unique experience is open but must be to be scheduled and agreed upon with Henning and the package expires October 23, 2022. Your days will run from approximately 10:00am to 3:00pm. The suggested months for this experience are April and May 2022. If you're looking to see blooming wildflowers and lots of migratory birds the Hambidge staff suggests the best time of year is the last week of April.

About Henning

Henning von Schmeling, Sr. Director of Operations at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, is an eclectic naturalist with expertise in all things nature - from birds to insects to geology to plants. He is a tireless teacher, photographer and has worked for the Chattahoochee Nature Center for 34 years. He is perhaps best known for his knowledge of Georgia's native plants, his propagation skills and as the creator of the "B-52" Venus-Flytrap. While collecting Sarracenia purpurea montana in the early 1990's, Henning, along with fellow "Bogfathers" Ron Determann and the late Tom Patrick, began a discussion that ultimately gave way to what is now the Georgia Plant Conservation Alliance, an organization Henning has worked tirelessly on behalf of since its creation. Member organizations such as The Ray, Southfork Conservancy, Monarch Collaboration and others seek out Henning's expertise regularly, particularly with propagation of native plants. As Mincy Moffatt says, "He can root a tree from a pencil."
