About the Artist

Ralph Parus was born and raised in Detroit, MI. Parus has been designing and making jewelry and metal objects since he was sixteen. He started his studies in jewelry/metal in 1976 at Penland School of Crafts. That same year he was also in the fine arts program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. You can see Parus' industrial Detroit influences in his work but with a contemporary flair.

About the Artist

Born in Wichita, KS, Thomas Madden currently serves as the Section Chair for Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design at the College of Creative Studies. In addition to his work at the college, Madden also teaches workshops internationally. His work has been shown nationally and internationally and is represented in the collections of numerous private collectors, corporate collectors, and museums, including the Metal Museum. He has received numerous accolades fro his work, such as being named a Life-Time Member of the Michigan Silversmiths Guild and being named the 2007 Master Metalsmith at the Metal Museum.

About the Item

This year's Repair Days Light Switch Plate is bronze designed by Michael Vognild and cast in the Museum's Foundry. Vognild has been a Metal Museum volunteer for many years, and has had a hand in many of the commemorative light switch plates over the last decade. The design is based on the Repair Days saying, "We fix everything but cats, cars, and broken hearts."

This year's Repair Days Commemorative Light Switch Plate is designed by Foundry Apprentice Savannah Smith and cast in aluminum in the Museum's Foundry. Featuring two birds in flight and boughs with hanging berries, this design is based on work by this year's Master Metalsmith, Kim Cridler.

About the Artist

James Viste was raised on a farm in Wisconsin. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a master of fine art degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He is a nationally known blacksmithing demonstrator and exhibitor and has participated in several national Ironwork Restoration Projects, including at Cranbrook Educational Community, The Charles Lang Freer House and The Detroit Institute of Arts. He has worked for studios in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Mexico and Michigan. He is currently the Manager of Edgewise Forge LLC in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
