About the Item
This small metal sculpture entitled "Presence of Absence" suggests the consequences of repeated actions against our forests through deforestation. The bird feet are a quiet symbol which represents the loss of habitat. The sculpture is cast pewter with mounting bracket included for wall display.

About the Artist
Cozette Phillips earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from The State University of New York in Metals and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture and Illustration from The Columbus College of Art and Design. Artist residencies and research include The School for American Crafts at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, Lademoen Kunstnerverksteder in Trondheim, Norway, Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, and the Metal Museum in Memphis, TN. A practicing artist, she exhibits sculpture in national and international venues maintaining a studio in Spokane, WA. Presently, Cozette is a Curator for the State of Washington Permanent Arts Collection and Gallery Director for SFCC Fine Arts Gallery. Her artwork is in both public and private collections including the Michigan Legacy Art Park, the Metal Museum in Memphis, TN, and on permanent display at Okayakohan Public Park in Okaya, Japan.
