MORNING BURN BY ARTIST PAUL BEEBE
Framed and signed by the artist, "Morning Burn" is oil on panel measuring 20" x 30" in a bright reddish-gold frame. The outside frame dimensions are 25 1/2" x 35 1/2".
Paul Beebe has been painting since age 15, but found himself drawn to marine subjects after his first visit to the island of Martha's Vineyard 25 years ago. He became inspired by its rich maritime history and a great supply of subject matter in which he could express himself. He began to render the historic schooners, elegant racing yachts and whaling ships that regularly cruised island waters.
Starting with a preliminary value sketch, Paul develops his paintings using multiple layers of color from a limited palette. His finished paintings are highly expressive works that often feature the luminous skies and muted colors that define his subject in different atmospheric conditions. He enjoys both studio and plein air painting.
Paul is a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists. He is a member of the Martha's Vineyard Art Association as well as the Hamden Arts League. He had work accepted in the last 7 International Marine Art Exhibitions at The Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport Museum, where he won an Award of Excellence, as well as the Rudolph J Schaefer III Emerging Artist award. He was recently awarded membership to the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City.
Louisa Gould established the Louisa Gould Gallery in 2003 as Martha's Vineyard Island's only contemporary photography gallery. Given Louisa's specialty for yachting photography the gallery started with a strong marine theme. Since 2003, the gallery has expanded to include other artists and mediums; oil painting, works on paper, sculpture, glass, jewelry, furniture, and new media art. The gallery is dedicated to promoting established local, regional and emerging artists in varying medias.
