Framed relief collages from Partnoy's 1986 series "The Jewish People/La Raza Judia:" made with oil paint and textile. Raquel Partnoy is a visual artist, poet, and essayist whose work demonstrates the power of memory and art to counter attempts at political erasure. Born in Argentina, where she studied with the well-known painter and teacher Demetrio UrruchĂșa, Partnoy emigrated to the USA in 1994. Her paintings have been shown in more than 100 exhibits in Argentina and the USA. This painting is from Partnoy's 1986 series "The Jewish People/La Raza JudĂa," 11 relief collages inspired by Jewish ceremonial objects. Art critic Cesar Magrini described the series: "The ancient past with the force of the present; Jewish traditions, their liturgy and rites: all are captured with their full meaning." After an exhibition at the B'nai B'rith National Jewish Museum in Washington DC, the remaining paintings hung in Partnoy's home. This is the first time it is offered for sale. 28" W 26" H
