Artist Statement: Expressively blending bliss and grace in color and brush strokes, this painting is based on one of my most profound moments and fondest memories from the park. During a late afternoon painting session at Yaki point, several hikers were about to begin a descent down the Kaibab Trail. I'd been monitoring the skies carefully and pointed out to the hikers to keep an eye on the weather as some thunderheads were building. A little while later I was working on a watercolor painting looking North when I felt the first few raindrops. Looking to my left I saw some heavy downpours erupting in the middle of the canyon. The rain was back-lit by the near setting sun, giving off the appearance of liquid gold flowing from the sky. I quickly pulled some additional watercolor paper from my pack and started making color notes and another painting. (That watercolor painting sold during the Celebration of Art). I consider it an honor and my pleasure to finally immortalize and share with you, the memory of the "Sunset Sermon at Kaibab"
