We Rise Press Statment-

The Mind's Eye: A LACMA Poster Project is intended to look inclusively at art and creativity as they intersect with a diverse range of perspectives. Hope and creativity are inextricably intertwined, and art is one of the ways we imagine new futures for ourselves. This project is developed in collaboration with We Rise in honor of Mental Health Awareness month, after a year of inconceivable suffering whose impact was felt disproportionately by the most vulnerable among us. LACMA seeks to be a place of community, solace, and inspiration, where visitors can see themselves in relation to others as well as in relation to stories-both existing stories and those yet-to-be-told.

At this moment, as we collectively work to envision and shape a future that centers diversity, equity, and inclusion, the unique experience and imaginative potential that neurodiversity brings are essential to consider. The struggles that may come with neurodiversity touch both artists and visitors alike and offer models of resilience, authenticity, and innovation.

LACMA has commissioned a series of graphic works by five artists to be displayed on vinyl clings installed along the construction fence on Wilshire Boulevard. Scoli Acosta, Andy Alexander, The Revolution School, Favianna Rodriguez, and Kerry Tribe all use different aesthetic strategies to evoke the vast range of cognitive and affective processing styles encompassed within human experience. With their deep connections to Los Angeles, these artists represent the multiplicity of visions that make the city such a special place to nurture creativity and look to brighter days ahead.
