In Bordeaux, many of the famous chateau own several hundred acres producing thousands of cases in good years. In Burgundy, the best wine terroir was subdivided after the Napoleonic War, creating small land holdings, most 20 acres or less; these famous wineries produce only hundreds of cases each year, not thousands. The Burgundies in this lot exhibit succulent red fruit, silky tannins and complex underlying spice. These world-renowned wines show why the best French Burgundies remain the gold standard for Pinot Noir; they pair well with food. Even after 25 years, these wines improve with decanting for a couple of hours, and then savoring each sip. They will remain excellent for at least another decade.
