Raku wall art pottery bowl made by Robert Iverson.

Robert was a very well known art teacher at Garfield High School in the late 60's and early 70's, with a unique focus on Raku pottery. Inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing, Western-style raku involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials. The end result is a wonderful variety of colors and surface effects. Many of Robert's students went on to win numerous state awards and he himself was awarded a Fulbright scholarship in 1967 for his artistic contributions and teaching expertise.
