"This is an unframed 24"x18" work on paper featuring a Chinese guardian creature, which I observed in colonialized ceramic form at the Peabody Essex Museum on a visit with my family a few years ago. It was meaningful that it was a family trip, because we all live in different cities, and convene only once a year. I love the reverence of the guardian dog lion, but in this case my outsider approach prompted a concern about the teeth, the body, the layers of seeing through to some kind of essential presence about the form, and how it defines space around it. Through embodied senses, I seek to define my own terms of engagement with cultural symbols of all kinds." -Jamie Chan

Jamie Chan (b. 1984) is an artist from Los Angeles, now based in Brooklyn. She received her BFA from UCLA in 2006 and her MFA in painting from Bard College in 2013. Her work has been shown at Tif Sigfrids Gallery, Athens and NYC, Ceysson et Bénétière, NYC, in an installation by Nancy Shaver at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and in project spaces across NYC and LA. Appearing in 4Columns in 2018, Chan coauthored a review of an exhibition of paintings shown inside a mall in Chinatown. Her writing has also appeared in the collection This Long Century (http:/www.thislongcentury.com/jamie-chan). Chan works in Art Education at the School of Visual Arts and is a member of Essex Flowers.

Vincent Chong is a Queer mixed-race Chinese-American artist and educator working in Chinese calligraphy, seal carving, painting, drawing, and performance. Vincent's practice is a restorative act to recenter QTAPI folx in art and cultivate community centered creativity. They paint portraits of members of the QTAPI community and organize QTBIPOC centered workshops. Vincent is a student of calligrapher Wu Wen-Sheng. They have shown work at The Museum of Chinese in America, Site Brooklyn, and PAAM. In May 2022 Vincent will have their first solo show at Skånes Konstförening Gallery in Malmö, Sweden curated by Grace Chang. Residencies include the WOW Project Storefront Residency and Book Artist Residency at The Center for Book Arts and Fire Island Artist Residency. Performances include MoMA PS1, Abrons Art Center, Movement Research at Judson Church, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Jeanne F. Jalandoni is a painter and textile artist based in Upper Manhattan. Her work navigates her Filipino American culture by utilizing childhood experiences growing up in NYC, family stories, and FilAm history. Jeanne received her BFA in Studio Art from New York University (2015), and was an artist-in-residence at Textile Arts Center (2021; Brooklyn, NY).

James Gouldthorpe creates large painting installations that when installed they transform an exhibition space into an immersive narrative. The work often resembles an expansive abstract graphic novel that examines the intersection of literature and visual art. During the pandemic he create Covid Artifacts, a daily series of paintings archiving the objects, people and events that defined the year. A selection of Covid Artifacts was on exhibit at SFMOMA in 2021.

Along with his painting, he works with video, photography and audio. He has been a resident at the Prelinger Archive, Willapa Bay AIR, Montalvo Art Center and Recology at the San Francisco Dump. He has received several grants including the Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Grant, the Investing in Artist Grant from the Center for Cultural Innovation and the Jay Defeo Prize. His work has been shown widely nationally and internationally including Montalvo Arts Center, The Contemporary Jewish Museum, The Provincetown Art Museum, Terrian Gallery Spokane, Southern Exposure, and The San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery. He received an MFA from Mills in 1995.

For the past 26 years he has worked as the Senior Conservation Technician in the Conservation Studio at SFMOMA.
