Foxglove Beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis)

Foxglove Beardtongue or Foxglove Penstemon is a native perennial with erect stems featuring clusters of bell-shaped white flowers from late spring to midsummer. Resembling foxgloves the flowers are followed by small capsules that often turn red into early fall. The flowers attract bees and hummingbirds. Native Americans used the plant and its roots for a number of medicinal purposes including colds, coughs, consumption, snakebites, and toothaches.
