0New England Aster (Aster novae-angliae)
With magnificent blooms ranging from blue-purple to lavender-pink, New England Aster is a highlight of the late season landscape. Easily grown in a broad range of conditions, it thrives in full sun or light shade in all but the driest soils. The leaves and flowers are edible and it was used by Native Americans for a number of medicinal purposes. It provides a critical fall nectar source for pollinators, especially Monarch butterflies as they prepare for fall migration to Mexico.
