The handle is real ray skin wrapped with cord to comfortably fit in your hand.
The Maru gata style tsuba depicts a bamboo forest which has features that are quite like the sword itself. One of the most impressive things about bamboo is how flexible they are yet firmly rooted. Even in the strongest winds or typhoons they manage to stand still and tall. The sword is much like bamboo, resilient and strong.
