Handmade beaded earrings made by Cheeyaka & Co.
A little about Cheeyaka:
My English name is Tiffany, my nlaka'pamuxcheen name is Cheeyaka. Cheeyaka was my grandmother (or ya-ya) name on my fathers side. In English it translates to a helping hand. I am a member of the Lytton First Nation which is in the heart of the Nlaka'pamux territory where the Thompson and Fraser rivers meet. I've been a guest on the Coas Salish territory on and off for about 6 years now.
What inspires Cheeyaka to bead:
My grandma Robyn taught me how to bead when I was a young girl. Her and I would make seed bead fringe earrings to match each one of my fancy shawl regalias.
I also feel inspired by my yaya CheeyAka who was a talented artist. She would create beautiful cedar root baskets that she would make to support our family. I hope one day to own one of her beautiful creations.
I also feel inspired to use my beading as a way to highlight teachings from our people. Whether it be our nlaka'pamuxcheen language or social justice lessons and resources my fellow educators can use in their classrooms.
Retail value: $65.00
