The Windsor chair was developed in England and perfected in the American colonies. A 'continuous arm' chair, the chair arm and back are made of one bent piece of wood which strengthens the chair while helping to relieve bulk on the back of the chair. The bow-back is a prominent feature of the chair. Typically made of a variety of woods in a single chair such as elm, hickory, oak, maple, ash and fruitwoods. To disguise multiple woods, a single dark stain is typically used. These chairs are often pictured in portraits of colonial figures and members of the second colonial congress. Thought to be the first mass-produced chair in the United States. Estimated to have been built in the 1800's this is a true antique and has been beautifully restored.
