This one-of-a-kind set of matching chair/rocker was purchased from a local antique enthusiast their home and used throughout their lifetime, here in Utah. They have a steam-bent back rest with Grinling Gibbons-type carving focusing on an acanthus leaf motif. The supports are reminiscent of a Flemish barely-twist style. The wood is believed to be mahogany. The closest resemblance to this chair are some found produced by Stickley and Brandt, (1891-1918) in the northeast in the Rococo Revival style. The bentwood and elaborate carvings resemble of a Belter chair of the Victorian era. They have been stained a dark walnut and have reupholstered with an ivory Sunbrella fabric. Dedicated to the memory of our dear friend Desiree Cooper-Larsen, the set is a unique and impressive pair that will be the focal point of any space.
