This chair is from the late Georgian period from around 1810 and was shippped over from Europe from the John Mattsen collection. Mattsen was one of the largest furniture dealers in Norther Europe for about 50 years. Wheels were not part of the original design of the chair but were added later, possibly to help maids when cleaning and moving. Some of the current events happening in 1810 included Napolean's invasion of France's neighboring countries in his efforts to build the French empire, Beethoven composes his Fur Elise, P.T. Barnum was born, the Industrial Revolution begins. The wood has been stripped of it's original stain and a new Jacobean stain color has been applied. All strings have been retied and the seat cushions have been replaced. All upholstery has been replaced and nickel tacks were added along with the bolster pillow.
