The 3 Graces was a shot in a house I lives in near Arsenal football grounds, on Highbury Hill, Islington for 20 years. Suzie Kruger, the model in the middle, ran FIST, a gay sex club for many years. Jasper on the left became a man and Gill is still living in London. The old Italian woman who lived on the top flat screamed at me from her window, "You cannot take the pictures of the naked women!!" so loud that I nearly didn't make this photo. But Jasper, Suzie and Gill insisted that we keep shooting -- even though by then all the neighbors were watching. Afterwards Suzie shaved my head (back in the day when I had hair).
Parveen Adams, a Lacanian psychoanalyst and writer who was my unofficial mentor when I was doing my MA at the University of Derby, wrote an essay about this image in The Emptiness of the Image (Routledge 1995) entitled The 3 (dis)Graces. It has been one of my most 'successful' images in terms of publications and collectors.
