This image was made in the apartment Victor shared with their then partner, Paul B. Preciado (aka Beatriz), renowned author and gender theorist. Victor is a French/Algerian performance artist who was channeling Om Khalsoum, an Egyptian icon and one of the most famous Arab singers of all time. As a child and into her twenties, Khalsoum's father dressed her as a boy, in order to avoid social censure. She was also rumored to be a closeted lesbian. This triptych plays with the tensions between gender and social stereotypes, making Victor at once a gender and ethnic terrorist.
