Discover ancient Scotland from your home away from home, the 500-year old Kilmartin Castle.

On offer is two nights at Kilmartin Castle in Argyll - the perfect place for travelers searching for a deeper connection to Scotland. After 200 years sitting quiet and unoccupied, in 2019 Kilmartin Castle was expertly and beautifully restored into a luxury bed and breakfast. The centuries-old castle is situated on the whisky west coast of Argyll in Kilmartin Glen, with its burial cairns, standing stones older than the pyramids in Egypt, and stone circles. A rocky crag nearby called Dunadd was first fortified around 2,400 years ago and in the 6th century become the citadel of the Kings of Dál Riata, the first Kings of Scotland. This was the home of the Scotti, the people who gave Scotland its name.

Arriving in Argyll, your journey begins with a guided tour of the romantic Inveraray Castle, seat of the Dukes of Argyll and one of the earliest examples in Scotland of Gothic Revival architecture. Famous for its Armory Hall, visitors can view some 1300 artifacts including Brown Bess muskets, Lochaber axes, and 18th century Scottish broadswords. The collection also includes preserved swords from the Battle of Culloden, magnificent tapestries, and a priceless collection of China and silver. Of note is the sixteen-acre garden, comprised of formal lawns and flowerbeds as well as park and woodland, forming one of the most important designed landscapes in Scotland.

Following your visit to Inveraray, check-in to the historic Kilmartin Castle where owners Simon and Stef have combined a traditional Scottish feel with their own unique touches. Each day enjoy a 2-course locally sourced breakfast and in the evening unwind with a Jura whisky by the roaring fire in the grand hall - or cozy up by the fire pit in the castle gardens under the stars. You will also have the opportunity for a guided tour of either Crarae or Arduaine, both spectacular National Trust for Scotland gardens, on your way back to Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Offer is subject to availability between April 2022 and October 2022. Tours are subject to availability at a mutually agreeable time. Generously donated by Stef Burgon and Simon Hunt, Kilmartin Castle, Inveraray Castle, and the National Trust for Scotland.
