This series represents three of eight portraits commissioned by Nashville's Noelle Hotel in 2017. Their theme was "Nashvillians of Note: Past and Present." Brawner's internationally recognized work honors 20th-century illustrators and cartoonists including "The Terrible Three from Tennessee": Carey Orr (1890-1967), Joseph Parrish (1905-1989), and Ed Holland (1918-2009). The three gained notoriety for their biting editorial cartoons in the Nashville Tennessean and Nashville Banner newspapers in the 1930's and eventually accepted positions with The Chicago Tribune, where they earned their nickname. Carey Orr received the Pulitzer Prize for his work in 1961.
