Known as a "Tinnie" this painted tin shorebird decoy was likely manufactured between 1870 to 1920's. The use of shorebird decoys became obsolete when the Migratory Bird Treaty Act was passed in 1918 and the hunting of most shorebirds was prohibited. In 1928 the remaining two shorebird species (yellowlegs and plovers) were protected when all shorebird hunting was prohibited. This tin, painted shorebird decoy was collected from a Downers Grove estate sale.
