A three hour workshop that will prepare up to 20 participants for most emergencies encountered in any oudoor activity - hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, snow-shoeing, skiing, rafting, or driving in a car. The program is designed specifically for families with youngsters, or those with limited experience in the outdoors. We wll share with you our list of essential items. These are things that you and especially your children should tak e along whenever you/they venture into the wild. By "wild" we mean any location that has more grass than your back yard and that is farther than shouting distance from home, camp, etc. "Wild" includes any natural area - from a forest preserve to the Canadian backcountry to the Utah desert. The list is short and is comprised of items that are easily carried - small and lightweight. All would fit into a small fanny pack. ANy one item could turn an "emergency" into a "mishap". All together they could save your life. Led by Emeritus Trustee of The Conservation Foundation Ron Nosek.
