Richard Bollinger was born in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Lansdowne.

He attended Temple University and Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia majoring in illustration. His professional career began in 1969 where he worked with a design firm in Philadelphia. Working as both illustrator and designer, his creative and flexible style afforded him a wide range of projects and commissions, from creating simple spot drawings in children's books to complex detailed illustrations for the United States Navy. In the early 70's, he accepted a position as Art Director with a Chester County advertising agency. It was there that he began to develop his skills as a painter. By the mid 70's, his work as a fine artist was rewarded with his first solo exhibition at the Chadds Ford Gallery. When the show sold out, it provided the springboard for him to leave the world of commercial art and devote full time to painting. He has since had over 35 solo shows.

Today, his art is represented in over 125 galleries across America. He has been honored by the Neographic Association with gold and silver awards of excellence on numerous occasions. He was selected by the United States Department of State "Arts in Embassies Program" which promoted and exhibited his work around the world.

Bollinger was awarded the commission to produce the official commemorative painting for Valley Forge National Historic Park for their centennial celebration. He is frequently commissioned by corporate and charitable organizations. Over 150 of his original works have been reproduced as signed, limited editions. His paintings can be found in private and corporate collections across the country.

Bollinger's home and studio are located in West Chester, PA where he lives with his wife Pat. They have four grown children and seven absolutely brilliant grandchildren.
