Kathleen Apfelbaum - There was never a time in my life when art was not the most important thing. It gave me stability and made sense when nothing else did. I attended the University of the Arts, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Tyler School of Art and am a member of various groups and art centers where I continue to receive education for oil and pastel painting as well as jewelry making. I hope to always move forward, learning along the way, meeting wonderful people, seeing the world in light, color, shape, movement...ever evolving, never stagnant.

My favorite mediums are pastel and oil. I am also proficient in textile painting, having painted on fabric for 40 years. These days I divide my time between the exciting colors in my pastel box or the creamy oils on canvas and board.

Living in the country, I am surrounded by sky, barns, animals, horses, places like Chanticleer, Longwood Gardens, the New Jersey Beaches. There is no end to the inspiration surrounding me. This area has incredible schools, art centers and societies like the Delaware Valley Art League, Wayne Art Center, Incamminati, Brandywine, Andrew Wyeth. Just recently I have the pleasure of helping to start The Philadelphia Pastel Society in this area and look forward to sharing with other artists, the joy of pastel.
