About our unique vinyl auction lots:

"We ex-KUSP programmers are more than happy to be a part of Kuumbwa Jazz's Swingtime into Springtime benefit auction. Over the last 50 years there has been a 'three-legged stool' in Santa Cruz to support the celebration of the Great American Art Form. Kuumbwa Jazz, KUSP-FM, and Logos Books & Records worked together to provide exposure and access to all eras of jazz. The connective nature of the three organizations goes back to the very foundation of Kuumbwa, where two of the three founders were programmers on KUSP. The years of live broadcasts, hundreds of interviews and in-station performances, stealth intelligence of the Logos crew who spotted talented and knowledgeable customers and sent word to the station, and a steady flow of amazing vinyl, all speak to this close relationship.

So it was natural for all of us to come together to go through our stacks of wax, and pull records that are quality items for the auction. They may not all be the rarest, most pristine, and most valuable, but they all are excellent selections chosen by experienced selectors. Bidders have the opportunity to jump start a jazz collection or fill in the gaps of their own. In the lots are extremely rare discs, colored vinyl, 10" 33 rpm records, radio-only samplers, sealed copies, rare and comprehensive box sets, and just plain favorites of ours. And they are in very good condition.

In addition to 100 record albums (many including multiple discs) there is also a very rare 6 CD Miles Davis set from Japan in an embossed metal box, a poster from SatchmoFest New Orleans signed by the artist, and a lightly used coffee table book of black and white photos from the Blue Note years. Treasures untold, all up for bid to support Kuumbwa Jazz, our local gem."

Disclaimer:

Thank you for your interest in the unique vinyl LPs included in this fundraising auction! The vinyl pieces included have all been donated by local collectors (and former radio DJs) and are in quality condition. Please note that the Kuumbwa Jazz team-members are not vinyl specialists and therefore the items are not graded individually. Many pieces have standard age wear visible to the cover sleeves. If there are any particular notable quality considerations on either the vinyl or the jacket, it will be noted accordingly. All auction sales are final.

Item-specific notes from donors:

Inside Sauter-Finegan: "These records represent nearly 50 years of listening, learning and collecting. From northern California estate sales to dusty racks in New Orleans, Seattle, New York, Pittsburgh and many more, I've travelled the country in search of the elusive disc. This is a cross section of the music that moves me, from Duke, Basie and Prez to modernists like Keith Jarrett, Archie Shepp and Bobby Hutcherson. I hope they'll provide as much pleasure to their new owner as they have to me," - Michael Reading.
