Title: Midsummer Day Dream

Description: This work depicts myself as a young girl covered by an abstracted bed of blankets sleeping under a tree branch. I appear to be fast asleep as water from the leaf drips into my mouth. The painting is referenced from a photo taken of myself when I was around 9 or 10 years old, napping in the middle of the day after a long morning at the beach. I distorted the surroundings of the original reference to show the transition from reality to the subconscious. A large part of childhood involves our tendency to want to escape to fantasy and long for worlds more exciting then our own. I was interested in depicting that moment before waking up into my fantastical 9 year old subconscious as the polyester 99 cent store blankets begin to blur and the lush forest of animated fantasy films filled my dreamscape.
