Up to 6 of you will enjoy a guided Tour of Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Gloss: American Artists and the Magic of Murano

Mystic Seaport Museum will be one of only three venues for this stunning exhibition from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and you can be among the first to experience the show in Mystic. Showcasing over 150 objects from more than 40 different lenders, this exhibition will present museum quality glass art works from the 1860 -1915 Venetian Glass Revival alongside paintings depicting the city of Venice and the process of glass blowing by some of the top American artists of the time, including John Singer Sargent, James McNeill Whistler, Frank Duveneck, Thomas Moran, Maurice Prendergast, and Maxfield Parrish. These glass treasures (some never before exhibited) and Venetian Grand Tour paintings show the impact of Italian glass on American art, literature, design theory, and science education, as well as period ideologies of gender, labor, and class relations. Also included is a limited edition copy of the exquisite catalogue.

You will also enjoy special access to Mystic Seaport Museum's Collections Research Center, the nation's leading maritime research facility, and the Art and Objects Vault. Located across the street from the main campus, the former J. Rossie Velvet Company houses the Museum's vast collection of maritime artifacts, including more than two million examples of maritime art, artifacts, trophies, tools, ships models, imprints and other documents, photo-graphs, 1,000 ships registers, 600 audiotaped oral history interviews, 200 videotaped interviews, and 1.5 million feet of historic and contemporary maritime-related footage.

Available on a mutually agreeable weekday during the run of the exhibition from October 17, 2022 - February 15, 2023. Minimum two weeks advance notice. Up to six guests.
